Fighting red dragons in Old School RuneScape (OSRS) can be a profitable and rewarding activity, especially for mid-level to high-level players. Red dragons drop valuable items such as dragon bones and red dragonhides, which can be used for Prayer training and crafting respectively. Here’s a guide on how to efficiently and safely kill red dragons in OSRS:

Requirements:

  • Combat Stats: It’s recommended to have at least 70 Ranged or Magic, and decent Defence and Hitpoints levels for effective and safe killing.
  • Dragonfire Protection: You need either an Anti-Dragon Shield (or Dragonfire Shield) or a potion with the Protect from Magic prayer. Without dragonfire protection, red dragons can deal heavy damage.

Gear Setup:

  1. Weapon: Use the best Ranged or Magic weapon you can afford. A crossbow with broad bolts or a magic spell like Fire Bolt is effective.
  2. Armour: Wear the best Ranged or Magic armour you can afford. For Ranged, Karil’s crossbow and Karil’s crossbow bolt racks are an excellent choice. For Magic, Ahrim’s equipment works well.
  3. Shield or Offhand: If you’re using Ranged, consider a shield such as a Dragonfire Shield to reduce damage. For Magic, you can use an Elemental Shield or similar item.
  4. Ammunition: If using Ranged, use broad bolts, which are a cost-effective choice. Alternatively, you can use rune or better bolts. For Magic, use the best spells you can cast.
  5. Necklace: Wear an Amulet of Glory or similar item for teleporting to a bank.

Inventory:

  1. Food: Bring high-healing food like sharks or better, especially if your Defence level is lower. You can also bring Saradomin Brews or similar high-healing items.
  2. Anti-Dragon Shield or Potion: Ensure you have either an Anti-Dragon Shield or a Super Antifire Potion, Extended Super Antifire Potion, or other forms of dragonfire protection.
  3. Prayer Potions: If you’re using Protect from Magic, bring Prayer Potions to restore your Prayer points.

Killing Red Dragons:

  1. Enter the Brimhaven Dungeon and make your way to the red dragons’ chamber. It’s a multi-combat area, so be prepared to face multiple dragons at once.
  2. Activate your dragonfire protection before engaging the dragons. For Ranged, equip your Anti-Dragon Shield; for Magic, use Protect from Magic prayer.
  3. Attack the red dragons, and use food and prayer as needed to sustain your health and protect against dragonfire.
  4. Collect dragon bones and red dragonhides as drops. You can use these for Prayer experience and crafting, respectively.
  5. When your inventory is full, teleport back to a bank using your Amulet of Glory or other means.
  6. Repeat the process until you’ve collected enough materials or reached your desired experience or loot goals.

Important Tips:

  • Consider using the Protect from Melee prayer alongside dragonfire protection to reduce damage from dragon melee attacks.
  • The Red Dragon Isle on the Corsair Cove also has red dragons, but it’s further away from a bank. Use it if you want less competition and don’t mind a longer trip to the bank.
  • Be mindful of other players in multi-combat areas.
  • Keep an eye on your health and prayer points to avoid getting killed.
