OSRS Fly Fishing Guide

osrs fly fishing guide

Old School RuneScape offers a plethora of activities for players to engage in, and one of the more relaxing and rewarding pastimes is fly fishing. Whether you’re looking to level up your Fishing skill or simply unwind while enjoying the virtual outdoors, fly fishing can be a delightful experience. This guide will walk you through the basics of fly fishing in OSRS, providing valuable tips and insights to help you become a master angler.

Getting Started

Before you embark on your fly fishing adventure, there are a few essential things you need to do and know:

  1. Requirements: To begin fly fishing, you’ll need a Fishing level of at least 20. You’ll also need a fly fishing rod and some feathers. Feathers can be bought from fishing stores, such as the one in Port Sarim.
  2. Choosing a Location: Several locations in Gielinor offer fly fishing spots, but one of the most popular is located just outside the Fishing Guild, which requires level 68 Fishing to enter. The Barbarian Village and Shilo Village are other viable options for lower-level players.

The Basics of Fly Fishing

Now that you’re all set up, it’s time to learn the basics of fly fishing:

  1. Equip Your Rod and Feathers: Right-click on the fly fishing rod and select “Use” on the feathers. This will create the fly fishing rod with feathers attached.
  2. Finding a Fishing Spot: Head to your chosen fishing location and look for the fly fishing spots. They are usually indicated by swirling water.
  3. Casting Your Line: Stand near a fly fishing spot and click on it to cast your line. Your character will start fishing automatically.
  4. Collecting Fish: As you fish, you’ll catch a variety of fish, including raw trout and raw salmon. These can be collected and stored in your inventory.

Leveling Up and Gaining Experience

Fly fishing in OSRS yields both Fishing experience and a chance to catch fish. At level 20 Fishing, you’ll start with trout, and at level 30, you’ll also catch salmon. Continue to fish at these spots until you reach your desired Fishing level.

Tips for Efficient Fly Fishing

To maximize your fly fishing experience and make the most of your time in OSRS, consider these tips:

  1. Banking: It’s a good idea to bank your fish periodically to free up inventory space. The closest bank to the Fishing Guild is in Catherby.
  2. Alternate Training Methods: To break the monotony, you can mix in some Barbarian Fishing, which offers additional Agility and Strength experience along with Fishing.
  3. Outfit Bonuses: Certain fishing outfits, like the Angler’s Outfit, provide experience bonuses when worn. You can obtain these outfits by participating in various in-game activities.
  4. Keep an Eye on Your Resources: Feathers and fly fishing rods break after a certain number of uses, so make sure to bring extra feathers and rods to avoid interruptions.
