Before you embark on your Woodcutting journey, it’s essential to have the right tools. In F2P, you’ll primarily use a hatchet to chop down trees. Make sure to equip the best hatchet available to you, as it will significantly affect your Woodcutting speed. At the beginning, a bronze hatchet will do, but you should aim to upgrade as you progress.
Selecting the Right Trees
In F2P OSRS, you’ll have access to several tree types, each offering different experience rates and log values. Here are the primary tree types to consider:
- Regular Trees: These are the most common trees and are excellent for low-level Woodcutters. They provide a decent balance of experience and logs.
- Oak Trees: Oak trees offer more experience per log than regular trees but require a higher Woodcutting level. They are a good choice for mid-level Woodcutters.
- Willow Trees: Willow trees are your next step up. They provide even more experience per log but require a higher Woodcutting level than oaks.
- Yew Trees: Yew trees are the highest-level trees available in F2P. They provide excellent Woodcutting experience but require a high Woodcutting level to cut and can be relatively rare.
Efficient Woodcutting Training Methods
- Power Woodcutting: This method involves cutting down trees without banking the logs. It’s the fastest way to level up your Woodcutting but doesn’t yield any profits. It’s best suited for those looking to achieve 99 Woodcutting quickly.
- Money-Making Woodcutting: If you want to make money while training Woodcutting, focus on cutting oak trees or willow trees. Oak logs and willow logs are in demand for F2P players and can be sold for a decent profit on the Grand Exchange.
- Questing: Completing quests like “The Knight’s Sword” and “Tree Gnome Village” can grant significant Woodcutting experience. These quests provide a great head start and save you some time in the long run.
Locations for Training
- Lumbridge: The area around Lumbridge is an excellent starting point for low-level Woodcutters. Regular trees and oak trees are abundant here.
- Draynor Village: Willow trees are plentiful in Draynor Village, making it a good spot for mid-level Woodcutters. You can also consider the Barbarian Outpost for willow trees.
- Yew Trees: For those with higher Woodcutting levels, the best place to cut yew trees is in Edgeville. There’s a yew tree just south of the bank, making it efficient for banking.
