Before you can start spinning flax into bowstrings, you need to gather flax itself. Flax can be found in various locations throughout the game, but one of the most convenient spots is the Flax field in Taverley. To access this field, head to Taverley and go north, past the tree patch. You’ll find the field to your east, and you can gather flax by right-clicking on the flax plants and selecting “pick.”
Spinning Wheels and Crafting Level
Once you’ve collected a significant amount of flax, you’ll need to head to a spinning wheel to turn it into bowstrings. Spinning wheels can be found in various locations, including Lumbridge Castle, Seers’ Village, and Tree Gnome Stronghold. Your choice of location depends on your convenience and crafting level. The higher your crafting level, the more spinning wheel options you’ll have.
Required Crafting Level
To start spinning flax, you’ll need a crafting level of at least 10. This is relatively low, making it accessible to most players. However, to maximize your efficiency and profit, it’s recommended to have a crafting level of 40 or higher. At this level, you’ll stop failing to create bowstrings, which means you won’t waste any flax during the process.
Inventory Management
Before you begin spinning, ensure that you have enough empty inventory slots to hold all the bowstrings you’ll create. Each piece of flax turns into one bowstring, so the number of flax you can spin is directly proportional to your inventory space. A full inventory of flax will yield a full inventory of bowstrings.
Spinning Flax
To start spinning flax into bowstrings, right-click on a spinning wheel and select “Spin.” This will open the interface where you can select the number of flax you want to spin. Choose the maximum amount you can, given your inventory space, and click “Spin.” Your character will start spinning the flax into bowstrings automatically.
Profitability
Spinning flax into bowstrings is a profitable activity in OSRS, especially for lower-level players. As of my last knowledge update in September 2021, bowstrings were in demand, and you could sell them on the Grand Exchange for a decent profit. However, it’s essential to check the current market prices and demand in the game to ensure you’re making the most profit.
Experience Gains
In addition to making money, spinning flax also grants you crafting experience. As mentioned earlier, the higher your crafting level, the less likely you are to fail, which means you’ll gain more experience. Crafting experience is essential if you’re looking to level up your crafting skill quickly.
